Pixel pitch reflects the pixel density in the LED screen, which is related to the image resolution. It refers to PX (PHXmm), based on the distance (in millimeters) between two pixels from the center of one pixel to the center of an adjacent pixel. X mm is the distance between two LEDs in the LED screen. For example, P4(Ph4) is the distance of 4mm between two LEDs (horizontal and vertical).

1. Video Resolution
Normally a narrower pixel pitch will have relatively less empty space between pixels, which makes different pixel pitch with different video resolution based on same dimension.

Therefore, narrower pixel pitch improves screen resolution as it has more LEDs (more pixels). More pixels achieves smoother borders and finer detail and bring the viewer a best visual experience. Narrower pixel pitch also allows the viewer to stand closer to the screen and enjoy a clear image without the distraction of discerning individual pixels.
However, it is not always the ideal option for every situation by choosing a narrower pixel pitch.
2. Screen Dimension
If same resolution is required, narrower pixel pitch has smaller dimension.
For example, 1080P (1920x1080 pixels) resolution. P1.5 LED screen, the dimension will be 2.44x1.372m; P3.91,LED screen, the dimension will be 7.5mx4m.
If same screen dimension is required, small pixel pitch has higher resolution (more pixels).
For example, 3x2m screen. P2.604 LED screen, the resolution will be 1152x768pixels; P4.81 LED screen, the resolution will be 624x416pixels.
Different projects requires different screen size according project demand. Although narrower pixel pitch brings higher resolution, a small pixel pitch can not meet some actual application demand such as a big event show.
Besides screen dimension, viewing distance is also an important factor.
3. Viewing Distance
LED screen is unlikely a TV which we could watch in a close distance even less than 1 meter(3.28ft). For an LED screen, it has minimum viewing distance.
Watching the LED screen at an appropriate distance, the viewer will enjoy natural and vivid images or videos. Otherwise, the image and video quality will be poor which the viewer will be easily distracted by discerning individual pixels.

Check the distance from screen to closest viewer for LED screen project, then select one which is smaller than that distance. The smaller, the better.
Of couse, the higher resolution means higher cost.
4. Project Budget
So it will be better to choose proper pixel pitch according to the project budget. Meanwhile, you may also need to consider structure building cost, installation cost and other cost except led screen cost.
